General Service Helper Of Railways
Electrical General Services is responsible for distributing electricity to all
Train Services (excluding towing services) and passenger care services
coaches (AC and non-AC coaches).
The Electrical General Services side is responsible for installation,
operation and maintenance of assets involved in the distribution of electricity to them
all railway services (other than Traction) and the extension of electricity to outsiders are open
Railways. The supply of HT 11kV is purchased from government power boards as well
unloaded and distributed to different loads.
The Department is responsible for this
· Maintenance of power supply to 159 power stations.
· Maintenance of 3788 Electrified Staff Quarters.
· Maintenance of 52 sub-stations Nos 11KV / 440V.
· Retention of 443 Pumping Installations.
· Uninterruptible power supply in 37 PRS, 133 UTS
terminals
· Maintenance of all elevators and escalators, air and water cooling systems
coolers in stations and service buildings.
· Fan maintenance and lighting arrangements in all stations, staff quarters,
service buildings and pump houses
There are 20 repair depots spread across the Unit to be implemented
power input adjustment.
Allowing access to high quality channels 33 nos. elevators given at 16
channels and 41nos. escalators were provided at 15 stations.
In order to give a better appearance in a large area, high masses are given
surrounding areas of A1 and A class stations namely, Chennai Central, Chennai
Egmore, Jolarpet, Katpadi, Chengalpet stations. High mast was also present
is provided at other stations such as Moore Market suburban station, Tiruvallur,
Arakkonam, Puttur, Walajah Road, Melmaruvathur and Tambaram
.
Lighting boards for easy identification of various resources in channels
offered in Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore, Katpadi, Chengalpet, Jolarpet,
Sub-station Moore Market, Avadi, Tiruvallur, Arakkonam, Tirutani,
Tiruvottiyur, Gummidipoondi, Sullurpet, Chetpet and Kanchipuram
The standard type of light signals use 20W / 40W FL tubes. In view of
energy saving practice, planned to replace this normal light
sign boards with bright LED boards. LED type boards consume only 5W that way
enabling 15W / 35W savings per board.
The first boards were blue with white text. Now to develop aesthetics as well
for better visibility, LED boards are lined with green back ground as well
white letters. 140 number. such LED lamp service boards are provided
recently under Revenue
.
Air conditioning is provided in waiting halls and dormitories e
A1 class stations namely, Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore stations. Outside
from these AC booths are located in Tambaram, Kanchipuram and
Melmaruvathur.
At Chennai Central station, the passenger hall is air-conditioned
by providing 14TR AC plants. As well as the aircondition dormitory has also been
provided 25 numbers. of gents beds and 5 nos. for women
.
At the Moore Market Complex downtown

replaced the 24W LED plugs.
Diesel Generator sets are varied

Mobile Charging Points:
Waiting halls and station areas have been provided with cell phones
charging points. LED channel boards in Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore CGL and PWU
provided instead of neon sign boards. At Chennai Central station, 19 numbers. a 150W MH light input was replaced
50W LED installation in various locations
At the Moore Market Complex train station, 37 existing trains. for 70W MH
light installation was replaced with 24W LED connectors
Provision of electric ballasts instead of standard ballasts
About 5800 numbers. standard copper wound ballasts have been replaced
electric ballasts
Electronic Fans Regulators:
4270 Standard fan controls have been replaced by Electronic fan controls
as a way to save energy
3 stars and 5 stars Rated Fans and AC units:
AC units with 3 stars and 5 stars and ceiling fans rated 5 stars are provided in offices,
Waiting halls, Retirement Rooms, VIP Louns etc instead of AC’s rated as starless
50,000 T5 installation is provided in service buildings, staff quarters, existing stations
Conventional installations save energy and improve light.
LED lights on stations:
LED lights are provided at the Concourse & Circulating facilities in Chennai Central, Egmore
and MMC channels. At Tiruvanmiyur station in the MRTS section, 200 nos. for 40W FL
the replacement was replaced with 20W LED lights. This was accomplished by
approaches M / s. TRIL Infopark Ltd. who did the repair work
voluntarily
Energy Conservation Day is celebrated on the 14th of December every year again
The week before this day is considered Energy Energy Week.
During the energy savings week in December 2014, the following activities were
done:
Power saving tips in the form of scrolling messages are displayed, one per day of
energy savings week, on the Railnet Home Page.Flex announcements announcing energy savings week from 8th to 14th December
in Tamil and English were placed in the entrances of the NGO and NGO buildings
Annexe Building, NGO gate at Annexe from Mint Street, at the entrance to the NGO
gate, main entrance to Chennai Central station and second entrance near MMC
.
